Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary
Eight years after witnessing her aunt’s murder, Mary Lennox returns to Misselthwaite Manor with fragmentary memories and an urgent need for a home. The Yorkshire house has deteriorated, her relatives are keeping their distance, and the garden where her aunt died is forbidden. Bernet reimagines The Secret Garden as a young-adult mystery, using its familiar setting to ask what a family can conceal beneath the promise of safety.
